Day 88 (Nov 18)


No news to report today.  Tobias has been exhausted and tired, but his heart rate has been low and he appears relaxed.  His responsiveness was muted today and he didn't talk much.  We didn't get a chance to feed him because of scheduling.  His lunch arrived when he was needed in therapy and his dinner arrived when he was out on a walk.  It's not a lot of fun to eat cold food.

Tobias' rehab doctor got in touch with his counterpart in Germany who is signing off on the return flight.  Apparently everything is in order and now it is a matter of the insurance company arranging the details.  We've asked to learn what the flight date will be so that we can make plans.  The day is getting closer.

Tobias' neurosurgeon also came by for a visit today.  He was happy with everything that he saw with Tobias and pronounced that his condition was normal for the circumstances.  He will perform another CT scan and an angiogram shortly before the flight to ensure that Tobias is safe to fly.

Dear Family and Friends, 2021 has been quite a year for us. Tyler and I decided in 2021 to stay a while longer in Germany. We made this decision in the beginning of the year. That let to the decision to purchase a house and selling our home on the East Coast, West Hartford, CT. Selling our home were the children grew up in, were we made so many fond memories was a tough decision but the right one at the end. Life moves on and it was time to let go. Being close to our daughter Emily in Berlin, Germany, and her lovely family has been important to us.  Tobias decided to stay in the US to continue on with his studies in Biotechnology. He got the opportunity to work in a lap to participate actively with his professor  researching antibiotic resistent bacteria. He had fun collecting "poop" and collecting the proper data so that the future generation can be a bit safer. We knew that he is in the right spot and we were  content with it. Nurturing Love Through Adversity: " A Journey of emotional changes while healing a brain"   DEUTSCHE VERSION UNTEN :) A Heartwarming Beginning Tobi has not cried once since day X. Not that I have seen him, at least. One of his very first sentence was spoken in October 2021. It happened with the strongest emotions of our son, he would only be able to communicate, when guided by emotions. Two full month without a word of Tobias, but then one afternoon. Tyler said "Tobias, I love you" - suddenly, Tobias answered: "I love you, too". Crazy, we could not believe our ears. He was not able to repeat it again for a long time. He must have been trying so hard to talk to us day in day out. From that moment on, I went to him all the time and said: Hey, Tobias, I love you, too!!!! ;)   I got eye movements instead.
