Note about this blog:

I'm creating this blog to document my experiences surrounding a massive brain bleed that my son, Tobias, suffered in August 2021.  I want to use it to update friends and family on Tobias' progress as well as a way for me to process this difficult situation.  I also want to create a record that I can share with Tobias when we get him back from his current sleep.  I am not a writer nor a medical professional.  I'm trying to accurately represent the information that the fantastic doctors, nurses and support staff are providing to me and my wife, but I'm sure that I'll make mistakes.

I don't know what direction the blog will go nor how long it will be.  Tobias is still in a critical state and we don't know if he will survive.  He has survived the first critical phase, however, and we are choosing hope over fear.

Update: It’s now over a week later and it looks promising that Tobias will survive.  If you notice a error or have a question, please leave a comment in the blog.  Please do not write anything that identifies people’s full names or the hospital/location where Tobias is being treated.  Thanks.

Dear Family and Friends, 2021 has been quite a year for us. Tyler and I decided in 2021 to stay a while longer in Germany. We made this decision in the beginning of the year. That let to the decision to purchase a house and selling our home on the East Coast, West Hartford, CT. Selling our home were the children grew up in, were we made so many fond memories was a tough decision but the right one at the end. Life moves on and it was time to let go. Being close to our daughter Emily in Berlin, Germany, and her lovely family has been important to us.  Tobias decided to stay in the US to continue on with his studies in Biotechnology. He got the opportunity to work in a lap to participate actively with his professor  researching antibiotic resistent bacteria. Nurturing Love Through Adversity: " A Journey of emotional changes while healing a brain"   DEUTSCHE VERSION UNTEN :) A Heartwarming Beginning Tobi has not cried once since day X. Not that I have seen him, at least. One of his very first sentence was spoken in October 2021. It happened with the strongest emotions of our son, he would only be able to communicate, when guided by emotions. Two full month without a word of Tobias, but then one afternoon. Tyler said "Tobias, I love you" - suddenly, Tobias answered: "I love you, too". Crazy, we could not believe our ears. He was not able to repeat it again for a long time. He must have been trying so hard to talk to us day in day out. From that moment on, I went to him all the time and said: Hey, Tobias, I love you, too!!!! ;)   I got eye movements instead.
