Day 101 (Dec 1)
I got to see Tobias again today. I tested negative for Covid again at noon. The CDC guidelines are that a fully vaccinated person only needs to quarantine if they have spent 15 minutes within six feet of a Covid positive person. I spent two seconds within six feet of a person who later tested positive. He was likely not even infectious when I saw him because he had just been exposed the night before. I was playing it extremely safe, but I'm relieved that I wasn't infectious and didn't expose anyone to Covid. I still got tested before coming to the hospital and also got the booster shot today. So far my arm is only a little sensitive at the needle spot, but I may have symptoms tomorrow. I didn't have symptom for either of the first two Pfizer vaccinations so we'll see how I do with the Moderna booster.
Tobias had a high heart rate again today. It was over 100 almost the entire time and I saw it creep into the low 120s. I gave Tobias some water when I first arrived and he was able to answer a few questions for me, but he wasn't as quick to answer as two days ago. He did communicate that he wanted to go for a walk and today was so warm that we only had to bundle up slightly. My plan was to walk with him for an hour, but he kept confirming that he preferred to stay outside so that's what we did. We ended up walking around for two hours before we had to come back for the nurse to give Tobias his medicine. We would still be walking around outside in the cold and dark, if I had let Tobias determine our return time. Several people commented favorably on the Christmas music coming from the bluetooth speaker on Tobias' lap.
I fed Tobias dinner and he did well. He usually struggles with food that isn't easy to swallow, but he managed to eat 20% of his vegetable lasagna with little liquid backup to wash it down. He is doing better drinking juice and milkshakes too. He really likes milkshakes.
The case manager told us that Tobias' angiogram is scheduled for Friday. This makes a Saturday return flight too close for comfort so the case manager moved Tobias' flight to Monday. I also get to reschedule my return flight so that I don't have to fly home before Tobias. The biggest disappointment is that we didn't get an answer regarding whether I can return with Tobias. We were told that we won't get an answer until Friday. If they say no again, we won't have any time to escalate our request. I put more pressure on the case manager to get an answer from the air ambulance company tomorrow.
Hope over fear.
I like this picture! I feel sad you will all be leaving, which is silly, because I've never seen any of you in person. But I'm happy that you're getting to go home. As always, my prayers are with you.
